Two things:
1. If you don't already know about TED talks, you should. Or, well, you do now. They're brief lectures provided online by a non-profit based on a conference which raises issues about Technology, Entertainment and Design. Essentially, famous and interesting people are given up to 18 minutes to give a talk. The talks are recorded and posted online so others who did not attend the TED conference can benefit.
2. Clay Shirky recently did a TED talk on social media. It's about 15 min long. After reading his book, it's kind of interesting to see him in action. Click here for the talk.

I'm familiar with TED and am glad you posted Shirky's talk. What struck me is how it seems that Twitter just "took off" recently but in reality it has played such a part in communication for quite awhile.
